Restart the system and press F2 and under Boot Options, change the boot option to Samsung SSD. Samsung Migration is useless, don't use it. I have copied even the DELL recovery partitions.

Use Samsung Magician to check if everything is correct.ĭownload and install Macrium Reflect Install it and clone all the necessary partitions. Now your system should detect both the drives. You'll boot into Windows safe mode and execute the second command and reboot the system and voila, you are done. First execute the command in CMD as administrator and then when on boot Press F2 and change to AHCI from RAID in SATA management. It basically changes the SATA mode to AHCI to RAID. Using the factory image on an NVMe will not work. That explains also why when I set the BIOS to factory defaults, it goes to RAID.

So my conclusion here is the factory image on the stock Sandisk X400, was imaged / created in RAID mode.

Samsung NVMe driver installs good, and Samsung Magician finds the Evo 960 now with all its feature set.

This proceeded to reset/reinstall Windows (not restoring a factory image), but still with Dell drivers and all, under AHCI this time. Now instead of restoring factory image, I just did a "total" Reset of Windows. So what I did to fix : I had the mode set to AHCI, expectedly it won't boot successfully, eventully forcing the SupportAssist OS recovery to kick in. If it booted on AHCI, inaccessible boot error. Whenever I use the factory image that came with the stock Sandisk X400, it only works as RAID. I wonder why Dell doesn't put its version notation consistently and causes confusion. A downgrade lowers the version so I believe 01.00.05 = 1.0.5. it doesn't effect even after a successful install, my version remains at 01.00.05. It's just "done".My unit came with 01.00.05 dated (don't know which one is day or month on that notation). No information provided about that either. in recovering only 98GB out of 450GB of my files. In the end Acronis was apparently successful. Recovery of those files gave me - again - plenty of random error messages Of course there is just another random error message coming up instead.

Acronis seemed unable to start the recovery, probably because the file was "hidden" and set to "read only". The backup finished, but it took way tooooooo long. Doing a folder backup, it came up with lots of errors of "unreadable" files which were perfectly readable in explorer

We're talking about a software that has been around for like 15+ years, it should be able to cover the basics. Now don't go and tell me that the 2019 is probably better.
ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 2018 TEST RESULTS LICENSE
I had a valid license for the 2018 version, so I downloaded that. Yesterday I decided to give it another go. It became obvious that Acronis become just another bloated and useless overpriced software. I used it for imaging my C: drive for quick recovery. Now I've used Acronis way in the past when it still worked. This might represent common knowledge for the more advanced users here (most of you are using linux anyways), but I feel like I need to share my experience here.
